Sustainable development – a philosophy and operating principle
1Our values
The philosophy of Stoop SA is based on sustainability and conservation of natural resources. By offering premium refined metal from ecological recycling of tin-containing waste and residues, we offer industry a significantly less energy-consuming choice with a much lower environmental impact than primary extraction of raw materials.2From the circular economy…
Absolutely all the raw material for our tin, silver, lead and antimony based metal products comes directly from waste, residues and other materials recovered from industry or specialized recovery sites. In fact, more and more of this waste comes from industrial processes that use our metal as raw materials! This shows that Stoop SA is really part of a circular economic process, in which the raw material is reused and recycled as long as possible, with the smallest possible environmental footprint.3… to continuous improvement
This is also the reason why our plants invest so much in research and development of new recovery, recycling and reuse techniques. This constant quest for improvement enables us to reduce our energy consumption gradually and to increase our capacity to recover an ever-increasing variety of metals, thereby improving our environmental performance and our impact in the circular economy.4… in the community
We are also very attentive to our impact on the communities around us. Our environmental impact is of course as low as possible, and our factories have state-of-the-art air and water filters that prevent any discharge. All health and safety measures are taken to ensure the respect and integrity of our employees, suppliers and customers. Under no circumstances do we question our values of environmental protection, health protection or safety for production or profit reasons. Similarly, we expect all our employees to understand and apply this policy, and to contribute to its implementation.Labels and certifications
All aspects of the operations of our plants are certified to the highest standards. Our Fenix Metals production site uses state-of-the-art processes and the best technologies available in the sector in terms of environmental control and protection, in accordance with the laws and regulations of the EU Member States. Fenix Metals' REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) ensures our compliance with European regulations for the safe treatment of products and materials. To ensure the ethical origin of the materials we process, our sites are regularly audited by the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) and Fenix Metals is certified as a smelter that does not use materials from conflict zones. The conflict-free minerals policy of Fenix Metals can be read here.
The site has ISO 9001 quality certification, ISO 14001 environmental certification and OHSAS 18001 working conditions certification. The general policy of Fenix Metals on this subject can be read here.
Fenix Metals is also a member of the International Tin Association (ITA), and is represented on its Board of Directors and Executive Committee. ITA represents about 60% of the world's tin production and we have been involved in the development of a Code of Conduct for the tin industry. You can find the result for Fenix Metals here.
Cross-border transport
The raw materials we receive and process are transported in accordance with the terms of the Basel Convention and the European directives on cross-border transfers, with all the required notifications. Our Fenix Metals site is pre-approved to receive these raw materials.
